Abstract
The new book “Macroeconomics: textbook for students of economics specialties’” is written by the lecturers of Kaunas University of Technology. This manual of macroeconomics is designed according to a popular structure of macroeconomics theory in USA and West Europe universities. The development of economics thought has made an important input into methodological cognition development and is an important instrument for understanding reality and presents alternatives for discussions. The textbook is devoted to the students of economics studies and for those, who seek to understand economy and social policy. The authors of the book tried to bring sense of coherence to the whole totality of the main macroeconomics principles and views. Evaluating the textbook it is necessary to pay attention to some aspects such as its necessity and originality, the experience of the authors and novelty, the importance of book for its readers, its logic and language. It is an intermediate level textbook. It shows what and how macroeconomists measures and evaluation, the evolution of macroeconomics and recent controversies, short run processes and long tern adjustments. The book consists of six parts and nineteen chapters. The first chapter “Methodological backgrounds of macroeconomics” involves the essentials of economics system, its understanding and macroeconomic policy forms. The second chapter “The main macroeconomics indicators” reveals the importance and problems of national accounting system and the measuring of domestic output, national income, price level, consumption and investment. The third part of the textbook “The instruments of economic regulation” analyses fiscal and monetary policy. These policies are described using ISLM model and macroeconomics demand schedule. The fifth part “Macroeconomics dynamics” presents the growth of economics theories, analyses the main economic problems: unemployment and inflation, shows the system of money at the international level in global economy and European integration development. The sixth part “The lessons of economics history” gives a very important methodological background and understanding of historical development of economic thought. The book under review analyses fundamental macroeconomics theory principles and its practical aspects. It will be useful for the students of economics and business administration as well as, for lectures, businessmen and all those interested in the subject.
